The ProQual Level 4 Award in Core Knowledge for Laser Safety develops the underpinning safety knowledge for people working, or intending to work, with laser and other high-energy light devices in aesthetics.
The two mandatory units cover legislation and regulations relating to medical lasers and related devices, together with the principles of their safe use.
This is a knowledge award. Treatment-specific practical training, device training, insurance requirements and local licensing may also be required.
ProQual Level 4 Award in Core Knowledge for Laser Safety
Qualification 610/5057/X. TQT 40 hours. GLH 16 hours. Four credits. Pass/Fail. Valid for three years.
This Ofqual-regulated, knowledge-based award covers two mandatory units: M/651/4099, legislation and regulations for medical lasers and related devices; and D/651/4100, safe use of medical lasers and related devices. No treatment models are required.
Learners must be at least 16. There are no formal academic entry requirements. Assessment uses written work and/or professional discussion. This award alone does not qualify a learner to perform every laser or IPL treatment.

There are no formal academic entry requirements. Learners must be at least 16 when registered and complete an initial assessment of existing knowledge and skills.
Both units are knowledge-based. Assessment evidence is normally written work and/or recorded professional discussion within a portfolio. Every criterion must be achieved.
The qualification has 40 Total Qualification Time hours and 16 Guided Learning Hours. Calendar completion time depends on the Academy delivery plan and successful assessment completion.
