Laser Hair Removal is a popular medical procedure that reduces unwanted facial and body hair using concentrated beams of light (a laser). It is suitable for removing hair on the face, arms, legs, bikini line, and anywhere else where unwanted hair may grow.

During a laser hair removal treatment, the laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigmentation (melanin) in the hair. This is converted into heat which damages the structures at the base of hair follicles that produce hair, preventing further hair growth.

Laser Hair Removal at Mayfair Aesthetics is a non-invasive procedure, providing our clients with a convenient, virtually pain free method of permanently reducing and removing hair from almost anywhere on the body.

How does laser hair removal work?

The first step is to book a free initial consultation and patch test to ensure you are suitable for laser hair removal treatments. We explain the treatment in detail and answer any questions you may have. You can see an example in our video below on tis page. Prior to your visit you will complete a medical questionnaire.

The first treatment can take place a minimum of 48 hours after the patch test.

Our highly trained Laser specialists recommend face treatments every 4 weeks and body treatments every 6 weeks initially. As the course progresses and hair growth slows down, later treatments may be more widely spaced.

Laser hair removal treatments can last anything from 10 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the area(s) being treated.

Is laser hair removal safe?

We use Diodeb laser hair removal lasers. These are class 4 medical lasers which are some of the safest and least painful systems on the market. We pre-screen all patients for any medication or medical condition that might make the treatment more risky.

A patch test is carried out prior to all treatments. We are laser specialists, fully trained and highly experienced in the operation of our lasers. We continually invest in training to ensure we maintain our multi-award winning service. Our first priority is your safety.

Ur lasers feature a sapphire cooling tip to rapidly cool the skin during treatment, ensuring client comfort and safety while targeting heat to the structures that actually create hair.

This type of cooling is by far the most efficient method of protecting the skin compared to the cryogen or cooled air systems used on other types of lasers.

A course of 6-8 treatments is usually required for the vast majority of patients with some areas such as face and bikini tending to be more resistant to treatment.

Please note, we do not treat men’s genital area but do offer bikini line, buttocks and perianal treatments for men

Does laser remove hair permanently?

Most clients will witness up to 80% hair reduction with the recommended number of 6-8 treatments, alongside top-up treatments as necessary.

How can I permanently remove hair?

Laser hair removal is our recommended method for permanent hair reduction. It offers various benefits, including long-term results, minimal side effects, and the prevention of ingrown hairs.

Can you laser pubic hair?

Yes, laser hair removal is a safe and effective option for removing pubic hair. It is commonly performed on and around sensitive areas like the genitals, offering the benefit of permanent hair reduction. However, individual experiences may vary, and it's essential to consult with our qualified professionals to ensure safety and suitability for your specific needs.

Which laser hair removal is best UK?

Many options are available in the UK, but the most efficient are lasers that beam light directly to the hair follicle. IPL machines flash light at the hair, and haven't been proved as efficient as laser machines for many reasons - most importantly, they are not suitable for all skin types. Our clinics use the best medically graded laser hair removal machines: Alexandrite for fair skin types and Nd: Yag for darker tones. Our significant experience in lasers has identified that they ensure efficient treatments, producing excellent results with minimum discomfort and reducing hair up to 80%. Book a free consultation and a patch test to become hair-free forever.

How long does laser hair removal take?

Length of sessions depend on what body part you are planning to treat. For example, underarms can take 10 minutes, and half arms or lower legs from 20 minutes, full back and shoulders from 45 mins, to full body, which can take 2 hours.

Do you see results after first laser hair removal?

This depends on the type of hair growth the patient has. With normal hair growth, a client could achieve between 10% to 20% of hair reduction in the first session, but people with PCOS hirsutism could see less reduction. Following a full course of laser hair removal treatments, most patients see up to 80% hair reduction and sometimes even more.

Is laser hair removal worth it?

If you sum up the amount you spend on razors or waxing treatments in your life, the £32-£220 per session for hair removal with laser is a cost-efficient choice. Consider laser hair removal as a beauty investment! Always chose a clinic that provides the latest technology lasers and the treatment performed by a trained technician to avoid burns or scars on the skin.

How long does laser hair removal laser last?

Laser hair removal is considered a permanent solution with up to 80% reduction - the hair eventually will grow, but thinner and not in the same volume as it used. The average touch-ups are one to four times a year, depending on individual needs and skin condition.

How many sessions does laser hair removal take?

Usually between 6-8 sessions will get you up to 80% reduction of hair growth, but is mostly dependent on the area. For instance, lower legs usually require 8 sessions, whereas the face requires 16-30 and sometimes more. All areas need top-up sessions to finish the areas off.

When you have completed 8 sessions you can book for a free review to help us to guide you how many more sessions you will need on each area and the frequency of the top-ups. You will not maintain the result if you do not do the to up sessions at the end!

How long does laser hair removal last?

The longevity of laser hair removal results varies, but it is generally considered long-lasting rather than permanent. Most individuals require six to eight sessions for optimal results, with treatments spaced at 4-6 week intervals. While some experience long-term hair reduction, the permanency may differ between individuals and body areas. Factors such as hair and skin type, as well as the treated area, influence the duration of laser hair removal effectiveness. Maintenance sessions may be needed over time to sustain the desired results.

Are three sessions of laser hair removal enough?

This depends on the person's needs, although many notice long-term results with 6 to 8 treatments. Once someone completes the courses they will enjoy hairless and soft skin.

How soon after my course will I need top ups?

To answer this you will need to book a free review after your course is complete. The best time to book your review is 12 weeks after the final session on the body or 6 weeks on the face.

Most clients are aware from the consultation that the upper body has more hair follicles so it's usually best to start the second course of laser on the upper body/face straight after the first course finishes for optimum results.

How many laser treatments are needed for Brazilian?

We recommend that a client starts with 8 treatments for any body area and then potentially do top-up treatments afterwards for the remaining hair growth. In some cases, clients do not have much hair growth left on the top area of the bikini line and they do not need to follow up sessions in that area, but to start with 8 sessions is vital.

Is it bad to do laser hair removal every 2 weeks?

Yes, it is generally not recommended to do laser hair removal every 2 weeks. Optimal intervals between sessions are typically 4 to 8 weeks, depending on body area. Frequent sessions may lead to skin irritation, burns, or other complications.

Does hair fall out after laser?

After performing Laser Hair Removal, hairs start to fall out between 5 to 30 days. You can help hairs to fall out with an exfoliating product.

Do I remove hair after hair removal with laser?

Between 5-30 days following the Laser Hair Removal session, shedding of the hair may happen and it might appear like new hair growth. However, that's not the case; it's dead hair making its way out of the follicle. A washcloth or exfoliation could support the hair to come out quicker.

Is laser hair removal suitable for darker skin types?

Yes, laser hair removal is suitable for darker skin types. We use the ND: Yag laser for Asian and Black skin. This laser penetrates deeper than most lasers, missing the upper layers of skin where the skin pigment lies, making it one of the safest lasers on the market for laser hair removal. Side effects are minimal and manageable.

My hair is really thick and dark, will I need a lot more sessions?

No, the thicker and darker the hair the better for laser! If you have hormonal hair you will still see great results, but more frequent top-ups will be needed.

What are the pros and cons of laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal offers long-lasting results, reducing unwanted hair and providing smoother skin. However, it is more expensive upfront compared to traditional methods like waxing and shaving. The procedure may require multiple sessions, and its effectiveness can vary based on individual factors like hair and skin type. Despite the initial cost, many find the investment worthwhile for the convenience and extended periods of hair-free skin.

What are the negatives of laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal destroys the hair follicles on the targeted area. The skin reacts to this, and typically people present irritation and redness in the treated area. After the treatment, the skin might be tender and feel a tingle or a slight swell may appear. However, these side effects are temporary.

Is laser hair removal safe for face?

Yes, laser hair removal is generally considered safe for the face. It's an effective method for removing unwanted facial hair with long-lasting results. While temporary side effects such as redness or swelling may occur in rare cases, laser hair removal is regarded as a safe and commonly performed procedure.

How painful is laser hair removal?

There can be some mild discomfort during laser hair removal treatment but it is often described as having an elastic band pinged against the skin.

The heat only hits the hair, not the entire skin like waxing does, so most clients find laser a lot less painful and faster per session than waxing! As we destroy more hair it will become less painful!

Is laser hair removal cancerous?

Laser hair removal treatment hasn't been associated with skin cancer. Actually, some of the procedures being used to treat precancerous lesions involve lasers. The machine produces minimal radiation when treating laser hair removal or other laser skin procedures, and only to the skin surface.

Is Brazilian bikini laser hair removal embarrassing?

Most women do get flustered about laser hair removal on their bikini/perianal areas, which is entirely normal. Whilst treatments in this intimate area may feel a little intimidating to begin with, our practitioners are always discreet and well-trained to provide the best customer experience, and our clients enjoy their journey with Pulse Light Clinic.

Will I regret laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal itself is rarely regrettable. However, potential regret may stem from choosing an inexperienced or cheap provider. It's crucial to research and select a reputable clinic to minimise the risk of dissatisfaction.

Why is my hair still growing after laser hair removal?

Immediately after one laser treatment, the hair still sits inside the follicles and then over the course of around 2 weeks, the hairs push out the follicles as if still growing, but then they shed out the follicles completely.

If the hair is still growing after your recommended package, you would need to follow up with top-up treatments to weaken further the hairs' roots and the environment that grows them. Laser hair removal does not always permanently prevent hair growth entirely, so top-ups are recommended for the finer remaining hairs.

Is laser hair removal expensive in the UK?

Laser hair removal in London and the UK can range depending on a few aspects. The first is the size of the treated area from face to underarms, bikini and legs; the size varies. The larger the area is, the longer will take to reduce hair follicles.

The second aspect is how sensitive the area is. The sensitive areas require more delicate and detailed treatments, like the face, arms, and bikini areas; this is to avoid producing hair stimulation or any unwanted pigmentation.

Generally, the cost in the UK is fairly priced for laser hair removal treatments, and at Pulse Light Clinic, we always provide reasonable offers but also finance options that someone can pay in twelve instalments and get the best laser hair removal London treatments from experienced practitioners.

Can you get laser hair removal on NHS?

The NHS may provide support for Laser Hair Removal, particularly for cases of unusually severe conditions. In such instances, the local Exceptional Funding Panel could consider funding the treatment. If you lack the required diagnosis for NHS support, at Pulse Light Clinic, we offer 0% finance options on our treatment packages.

How much is laser hair removal UK?

As mentioned above, laser hair removal permanently reduces the hair up to 80%, the truth is to be more affordable than waxing in the long run - however, it will, of course, look costly rather than spread out over a long period like monthly waxing is. At Pulse Light Clinic, we have competitive prices, and clients can spread the cost into twelve monthly instalments with our 0% finance option.

Do you shave before laser hair removal?

Yes, on the body. On the face we request you leave the area between sessions so we can closely monitor the progress for you and use the best settings as the hair can get very light and thin quickly. The body is fine to shave if you see any growth.

What happens if you don't shave before laser hair removal?

In some cases, we ask clients not to shave a particular area so we can see where the specific hair growth is. We would then shave it at the clinic, but in most cases, we require all clients to fully shave the area to be treated as the laser needs the full focus of its energy right through the hair follicles to impact the bulb of the hairs. If the hair is on the skin's surface, it is not suitable to treat over that hair without shaving as it is less effective, more of a risk to the skin, and it will be much more painful for the client.

Can I use hair removal cream instead of shaving before my laser?

Yes, you can - just leave 3 days before the appointment as hair removal creams can make the skin very sensitive. You must check the night before the session that there is no hair on the surface of the skin you will be having lasered or you will need to run over the area with a razor!

Can I bleach my face hair between sessions?

We prefer you not to perform treatments such as bleaching as we like to see the regrowth on the face at each session. However, if you have left a bigger interval, been in the sun or can’t have treatment for any reason, then yes you can bleach. The hair is shaved off at the appointment so it won't affect your treatment. Please do not bleach 1 week before your session as your skin may be too sensitive to laser!

Can I tan between sessions?

Do not use sunbeds if you are having laser hair removal it can increase chances of side effects dramatically! Fake tan can be used up to 3 weeks prior to the next session but must all be removed or we will have to rebook your appointment. If you tan in the sun you will have to exfoliate the skin you are having treated and re book for a skin test.

We will not treat sun tanned skin. You must be at your natural skin tone for every session. If you tan easily, you need to be more cautious as it can affect the frequency of your treatments and therefore the results.

Can you shave after laser hair removal?

Yes, you can shave after laser hair removal, but it's advisable to wait a few days before doing so. Shaving immediately after the treatment may irritate the skin. It's generally recommended to wait until the skin has fully healed, which can take up to two weeks, to avoid potential irritation and complications.

Can I wax after laser hair removal?

It is generally not recommended to wax immediately after laser hair removal, as it can pose a risk of skin damage. Optimal results are achieved by avoiding waxing between laser sessions, allowing the treated area to heal properly.

When can I shower after laser hair removal?

It's generally recommended to wait at least 6-8 hours after a laser hair removal session before taking a shower. In some cases, waiting up to 24 hours to ensure the skin has enough time to recover. Can you get laser hair removal over a tattoo?

It is generally not recommended to undergo laser hair removal directly over a tattoo. While the procedure is safe for the surrounding areas, treating directly on the tattoo may risk causing discomfort or altering the appearance of the tattoo. Our technicians will cover the tattoo or avoid the surrounding area during the laser hair removal session to protect it

Do celebrities get hair laser removal?

Celebrities are always in the spotlight, whether on the red carpet or during private moments. They absolutely do not want underarm or bikini hair to be visible in photos; therefore, Laser Hair Removal in London is a must for them.

How long before doing the laser should I switch to shaving instead of waxing?

If you currently wax, it’s essential to stop waxing or plucking the hair at least four weeks before your first laser session. This is because waxing removes the hair from the follicle, and the laser needs that follicle to target the hair root effectively.

We recommend switching to shaving during this period, as shaving only removes the hair above the surface while leaving the follicle intact. You should shave the treatment area 12-24 hours before each session to ensure the laser can target the hair follicle effectively without surface hair blocking the energy.

Is there anything I need to bear in mind if I go for the one with half-face included?

Yes, there are a few things to consider if you're having laser hair removal on your face. First, it’s essential to ensure that your skin is clean and free from makeup, creams, or any other products before your session.

Additionally, you’ll want to avoid sun exposure on your face both before and after your treatment, as this can increase the risk of pigmentation changes. Applying a high SPF sunscreen (preferably SPF 50) daily is a must to protect your skin. You should also avoid any harsh skincare treatments, such as chemical peels or retinol, for at least a week before and after your session to prevent irritation.

It’s important to avoid sun exposure after treatment, but does this apply to the face as well?

It’s crucial to protect your face from sun exposure both before and after laser hair removal treatments, even during cloudy days. The skin on your face is more sensitive, and sun exposure can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation, burns, or other complications.

We recommend wearing a broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen daily and reapplying it throughout the day, especially if you're spending time outdoors. If possible, try to wear a wide-brimmed hat or seek shade to further protect your skin from direct sunlight. Avoid tanning, sunbeds, and prolonged sun exposure for at least four weeks before and after your facial laser hair removal sessions.

Are there any risks involved?

Laser hair removal is generally a very safe procedure when performed by trained professionals, such as our specialists at Pulse Light Clinic. However, as with any aesthetic treatment, there are some minimal risks involved.

The most common side effects are temporary redness, swelling, or slight skin sensitivity in the treated area, which usually subside within a few hours. In rare cases, there might be slight blistering or pigmentation changes, especially if the aftercare advice isn't followed.

To minimise any risks, it’s important to adhere to pre- and post-treatment care instructions provided by our team. We also conduct a thorough consultation and patch test to ensure the treatment is suitable for your skin type.

Can I swap unwanted or unsuitable areas in my full body laser hair removal package for other areas or extra sessions?

No, when purchasing a full body laser hair removal package at Pulse Light Clinic, the areas included are fixed and cannot be exchanged for other areas not listed in the package. Additionally, it is not possible to swap these areas for extra sessions of areas that are already included in the package.

Do I need to cover my tattoo during laser hair removal?

Do I need to cover my tattoo during laser hair removal?
Yes!
For your safety, any tattoos in the treatment area must be completely covered before your session begins.
Why?
Laser hair removal devices are designed to target pigment in the hair follicle. However, tattoos also contain pigment, and if the laser beam comes into contact with tattooed skin, it can:
Cause burns or blistering
Lead to fading or distortion of the tattoo
Increase risk of scarring
What should I do?
Before your appointment, inform your practitioner about any tattoos near the treatment area.
Our team will carefully cover them with a protective medical dressing.

Remember: Covering tattoos is a standard safety protocol and ensures you get the best results from your laser hair removal while protecting your skin.
